Fitzroy Legal Service provides casework to clients in their catchment area and plays a significant role in the areas of law reform and community legal education, which is closely bound up with the practice of preventative law, demystification of the law, self-help and empowerment.

Public Interest Law Clearing House (PILCH)

 

The Public Interest Law Clearing House (VIC) Inc. (PILCH) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation which is committed to furthering the public interest, improving access to justice and protecting human rights. PILCH does this by facilitating pro bono legal services to Victorian individuals and organisations in need, and by undertaking law reform, policy work and legal education.

 

The Homeless Persons’ Legal Clinic (HPLC) is a project of PILCH.

 

The HPLC is a specialist legal service that provides free legal assistance and advocacy to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness within a human rights framework.

 

Mental Health Legal Centre

 

The Mental Health Legal Centre provides a free and confidential legal service to anyone who has experienced mental illness in Victoria where their legal problem relates to their mental illness.

People with Disability Australia Incorporated

 

A national peak disability rights and advocacy organisation. Their primary membership is made up of people with disability and organisations primarily constituted by people with disability and provide rights-related information, advice and referral services for people with disability and their associates.

 

Victorian Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders (VACRO)

 

VACRO provide support and information for individuals charged with a criminal offence, offenders, prisoners and their families; as well as a leadership, education, training and research on the Justice System for the Community.

 

Victims Support Agency

 

A central resource for victims of crime. Includes a helpline that is staffed by Victim Support Officers.

 

WIRE

 

WIRE Women’s Information provides a free and confidential generalist service for Victorian women.

Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII)

 

Provides free internet access to Australasian legal materials, including primary legal materials (legislation, treaties and decisions of courts and tribunals); and secondary legal materials created by public bodies for purposes of public access (law reform and royal commission reports for example) and a substantial collection of law journals.

Provides free information, fact sheets and links to a number of legal topics.
